Westmoreland Plastics has the ability to finish any molded product that requires special flatness, parallelism, surface finish, and size specifications.
Traditional lapping is one type of technology that we offer:
- Loose abrasive is added to the table for stock removal using a rolling action.
- A lapped surface is dull and crater-like.
- Lapping compound cannot be recycled.
- Lapped parts are somewhat dirty and require cleaning.
- Although very accurate, stock removal rates are slow.
Fine-Grinding, a more advanced technology, offers several advantages over the traditional lapping process, while maintaining similar levels of precision:
- Stock removal is performed by fixed super abrasive plates using a scraping action.
- A fine-ground surface has irregular crossing marks.
- The coolant used on the table can be recycled and creates a more positive impact on the work environment.
- This process can average between 3-20 times faster than lapping.
Fine-grinding at Westmoreland consistently provides precise and repeatable results at significantly lower costs.
Part applications:
- Seal rings
- Metering devices
- Medical components
