Thermoset Materials

Thermoset molding compounds offer exceptional dimensional stability, resist creep under mechanical load at elevated temperatures, and provide excellent thermal or insulating properties.

The following list details the types of thermoset materials that Westmoreland Plastics is currently processing or has processed over the years:

  • General Purpose Phenolic
  • Heat Resistant Phenolic
  • Impact Resistant Phenolic
  • Carbon Graphite Phenolic
  • Glass-filled Phenolic
  • Electrical Grade Phenolic
  • Special Grade Phenolic
  • Melamine-Phenolic
  • Urea
  • Epoxy
  • Diallyl Phthalate (DAP)
  • Thermoset Polyesters (BMC)

Examples of applications for Thermoset Materials currently or previously supplying:

  • Electrical applications such as capacitor caps, circuit breaker cases and covers, connectors, fuse blocks, lighting components, meter bases, switch housings and terminal strips
  • Gas meter parts
  • Seal rings
  • Appliance parts such as end caps, handles, knobs, decorative trim, bases and plugs
  • Cookware handles and knobs
  • Automotive parts such as ashtrays, drive train components and other underhood applications

It should also be noted that thermoset polyester materials can be evaluated to replace metals when corrosion resistance, weight, noise reduction, and significant cost savings are being pursued.
